WESTERN NEW YORK BOOK ARTS COLLABORATIVE TO HOST EXHIBITION OF RARE PRINTS BY ARTIST ADELE COHEN
Buffalo, NY
-- “Brought to Light: Rare Prints by Adele Cohen (1922-2002),” will be
presented Friday, April 16, through Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Western New
York Book Arts Center, 468 Washington Street (at Mohawk), Buffalo. The show and
sale features rarely seen artworks from this important Western New York artist.
This selection of recently uncovered prints marks the first time many of these pieces have been shown. The exhibit showcases the enigmatic overtones and superb technical finesse that were the twin hallmarks of her work.
Cohen exhibited widely, and received many awards and accolades during her artistic career. She has been honored twice with major exhibitions at the Burchfield Penney Art Center: first in 1981, and with a posthumous retrospective in 2007. In 2007, the Burchfield Penney Art Center and the Poetry Collection at the University at Buffalo published an illustrated biography, “Adele Cohen—A Life in Art.”
It is
fitting that an exhibit showcasing the artist’s print work takes place at the
Western New York Book Arts Center. The center is the home to the Western New
York Book Arts Collaborative (WNYBAC), a not-for-profit organization dedicated
to printing and the book arts. WNYBAC facilitates active educational programs
encompassing all facets of the printed word and image, including printmaking,
papermaking, illustration, design, writing and book-binding.
The show is presented by Dean Brownrout and 20thcenturyfinest.com, in association with WNYBAC. The Poetry Collection, The State University at Buffalo, is a co-sponsor.
